OUR MISSION
OUR MISSION
1992, the Tautphaus Park Zoological Society (TPZS) was organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission and purpose of the TPZS, as stated in its Articles of Incorporation, is to serve as a nonprofit membership organization that supports the City of Idaho Falls Tautphaus Park Zoo by:
SUPPORT THE ZOO
Become a Member Today! When you join the Tautphaus Park Zoological Society (TPZS) you become part of the zoo’s efforts to meet the challenges of preserving and conserving threatened and endangered animal species. Idaho Falls Zoo’s exhibits are designed to increase awareness and understanding of the animal kingdom and the natural habitats in which they live. The monies raised through membership sales help us accomplish our goals of conservation, education and research. The contribution you make is important to you, to us, and to the future of our world.
TPZS is a non-profit corporation established to assist the City of Idaho Falls with making your zoo bigger and better than ever before–for our families and for the animals.
EDUCATION COMPLEX
The TPZS looks to the future with a clear vision of providing optimal care for our zoo’s animals, a pleasant experience for the zoo’s visitors and especially for expanding our role as an educational institution.
In order to accomplish this most important vision, the TPZS has focused its fundraising on one major project. In concert with the City of Idaho Falls and consistent with the long term goals of the City, the TPZS has placed a new education complex as its number one priority.
As an AZA accredited zoo, The Idaho Falls Zoo education department is committed to excellence in conservation education. The zoo plays a vital role in educating visitors, and students in the classroom or in the field, about wild animals, their habitats, their related conservation issues, and the ways in which they can contribute to their preservation. The new education complex will provide the education department with its first modern permanent home. It will be equipped with a large lecture hall and a classroom(s) with state of the art audio/visual components. This will allow the zoo to better meet the growing community demands for educational programs such as One Day Classes, Summer and Spring Break Camps, Teacher and family classes and school outreach programs.
This education complex will serve not only as a major building to facilitate education, but will also be utilized as a new admissions office/zoo entrance, gift shop for the City of Idaho Falls Zoo, and any other purposes we may deem necessary as the City of Idaho Falls presents its five-year master plan for the zoo.
We will be able to rent out part of the facility. This will increase our revenue streams to help maintain the operations and maintenance of the complex. Possibilities include a large lecture hall complete with a catering facility to make it more attractive and functional for other community groups to use for banquets and meetings.
We estimate that to complete this project it will take well over $1,000,000.00. We have partnered with the Idaho Community Foundation and all raised funds are being held by them. They currently hold approximately $235,731.88 of all raised funds. We hope to have the remaining funds within the next 5-7 years, along with grant money, to begin building the project.
We currently plan on applying for grants from Housing and Urban Development, various state and local grants, and from several local businesses and foundations. We will continue to focus our fundraising efforts for this purpose and will launch new campaigns if need be to accomplish our goals.
